Reviews are in for the world premiere of Les Feluettes presented last month by Opéra de Montréal during the Opera America conference. Based on the novel by playwright Michel Marc Bouchard, the music, by Kevin March has been described as “Claude Debussy meets Benjamin Britten”. Above, tenor Gordon Gietz leads an all-male cast as bishop Jean Bilodeau with James McLennan singing the role of the younger bishop. All were ably led by conductor Timothy Vernon. Here are just two reviews:
“The Orchestre Métropolitain, led by Pacific Opera Victoria artistic director Timothy Vernon, tackled this accessible score’s varied terrain with assurance from upstage.” – La Scene Musicale
“Balance and pacing as overseen by Timothy Vernon (artistic director of Pacific Opera Victoria, which presents Les Feluettes next season, again in French) were excellent.” [world premiere of Les Feluettes for by Keving March] – Montreal Gazette, Arthur Kaptainis
Les Feluettes is a co-production with Pacific Opera Victoria will appear on their stage next season.
