Canadian-British bass-baritone Andrew Mahon has appeared as a soloist across the UK, Canada and Europe, performing both concert and operatic repertoire.
Specializing in the music of Bach, his recent performances include Mass in B Minor with the Tilford Bach Festival and Tenebrae & the Academy of Ancient Music; St. Matthew Passion with Westminster Abbey and St. Paul’s Cathedral; St. John Passion with the London Handel Orchestra and the Orchestra of St. John’s; Christmas Oratorio with Gloucester Choral Society, London Handel Orchestra, and Augsburger Domsingknaben.
During the 2019-2020 season, he looks forward to performances of Haydn’s Die Schöpfung for the Sequoia Symphony in California, Messiah with the Edmonton Symphony, Bach Cantatas in Ottawa and Leipzig (Bachfest Leipzig) with the Ottawa Bach Choir and Bach’s Johannes Passion with Tafelmusik.
In Canada, he has performed with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra (Handel’s Messiah and B Minor Mass), Les Voix Baroques (St. Matthew Passion), Grand River Chorus (Messiah), Oakville Masterworks (Christmas Oratorio), Tallis Choir (Haydn’s Mass in Time of War), Elora Festival (Handel’s Te Deum and Bach’s Lutheran Masses) and on numerous occasions with the Toronto Consort and Toronto Masque Theatre.
Other notable performances include Handel’s Messiah for Wells Cathedral Oratorio Society; Mendelssohn’s Elijah with Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir: Haydn’s The Seasons with Plymouth Philharmonic Choir; Haydn’s Nelson Mass with Wells Cathedral Choir; the role of Samuel in Handel’s Saul with the Bach-Collegium and Gächinger Kantorei Stuttgart; for the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival the role of Il Mandarino in Puccini’s Turandot with NDR Sinfonieorchester and a live television broadcast of Beethoven Chorfantasie with the SHMF Choir and Orchestra.
A frequent song recitalist, he has performed on the stages of Wigmore Hall, and the Forge in London, England. Andrew is a graduate of the University of Toronto and now resides in London, England.
