Scott rumble
Tenor Scott Rumble is an emerging dramatic talent making his mark on Canadian stages. Recent appearances include a role debut with Vancouver Opera as Steuermann in Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer and with Manitoba Opera in the world premiere of Li Keur - Riel’s Heart of the North. Upcoming, he looks forward to his role and company debut as Siegfried in Wagner’s Die Walkure with Edmonton Opera and Robert in Meyerbeer’s Robert le diable with Toronto’s Opera in Concert. On the concert stage, he performs Verdi’s Requiem with Chorus Niagara and Beethoven’s Ninth with Ensemble Caprice.
Last season, Scott also joined Opéra de Montréal for the world premiere of La reine garçon, the Canadian Opera Company for Cherubini’s Medea, and with Opera in Concert as Arrigo in Verdi’s La battaglia di Legnano.
His 22/23 season saw multiple reengagements for Scott, including returns to the Vancouver Bach Choir for Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, Toronto Operetta Theatre for Strauss’ Die Fledermaus (Alfred), and VoiceBox: Opera in Concert for Cherubini’s Médée (Jason). The tenor also sang Beethoven’s Ninth with the Kingston Symphony, and covered Göring in Opéra de Montréal’s world premiere of Bilodeau’s La beauté du monde.
Other recent engagements include Anatol in Barber’s Vanesssa (Opera in Concert), Oscar Straus’ A Waltz Dream (Toronto Operetta Theatre), Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Brott Music Festival, and Mozart’s Requiem with the Vancouver Bach Choir.
Mr. Rumble recently sang Ferrando in Brott Opera's drive-in production of Così fan tutte. At Calgary Opera, he appeared as Flavio in Norma, Rooster in Bremen Town Musicians, and was scheduled to perform Bénédict in Béatrice et Bénédict and Tanzmeister in Ariadne auf Naxos before the COVID-19 pandemic. During his time with Vancouver Opera, Mr. Rumble sang the role of St. Brioche in The Merry Widow and covered both the title role in Gounod's Faust and Rodolfo in La bohème.
Other credits include Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos (Highlands Opera Studio), Bob Boles in Peter Grimes (Vancouver Symphony Orchestra), Luigi in Il tabarro, Bacchus, Lensky in Eugene Onegin (University of British Columbia) and Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly (La Musica Lirica in Novafeltria, Italy). Mr. Rumble has also performed the tenor solos in Mozart's Requiem, Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, and Handel's Messiah.
Scott was a member of the Calgary Opera's Emerging Artist Development Program (2019-21) and a member of the Yulanda M. Faris Young Artist Program at Vancouver Opera (2018-19). He holds a Master of Music in Opera Performance from the University of British Columbia, and an Artist Diploma and Bachelor of Music (Honours) in Voice Performance from the University of Western Ontario.
